Mamadou Thierno Barry: Union SG’s Senegal defender linked with ETO FC move

Senegal centre-back Mamadou Thierno Barry of Union Saint-Gilloise is being linked with a move to Hungarian side ETO FC, with the NB I club exploring a deal for the 21-year-old defender.

Barry, who joined Union SG from Norwegian side Tromsø IL in January 2025 for a fee of €2.55 million, is under contract with the Belgian club until June 2029, meaning any transfer is likely to require a significant offer. His current estimated value is around €1.2 million, and ETO FC are understood to be assessing whether they can structure a move for the tall right-footed centre-back.

Standing at 1.95m, Barry has already gained senior experience in Belgium’s top flight and in European competition since his switch to Union SG. He has also featured in domestic cup action and was part of the Union SG side that lifted the Belgian Cup in 2026, adding silverware early in his career.

Before moving to Brussels, Barry made 15 league appearances in Norway’s Eliteserien for Tromsø, scoring once and accumulating over 1,000 minutes of top-flight football, experience that has helped draw interest from abroad. His progression from the Senegalese set-up at Academy Mawade Wade to Norway and then Belgium in the space of two years has marked him out as a defender attracting cross-border attention.

For now, Barry remains a Union SG player with three years left to run on his deal, leaving the Belgian club in a strong position should ETO FC decide to formalise their interest.
