Felix Uduokhai: Werder Bremen linked with move for Besiktas defender

Germany-Nigeria defender Felix Uduokhai of Besiktas has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen as the German club explore options to strengthen at centre-back. The 28-year-old, who can operate on the left side of central defence, is under contract in Istanbul until 30 June 2027 but is understood to be on Bremen’s radar as they assess experienced targets for the new season.

The interest comes less than a year after Uduokhai made his stay at Besiktas permanent. He initially arrived on loan from Augsburg in August 2024, before the Turkish club completed a reported €5m deal the following summer after being convinced by his performances. Besiktas now face the prospect of fielding enquiries for a player whose current estimated market value stands at around €3.5m, raising the prospect of negotiations if a suitable offer is made.

Uduokhai has yet to feature in this season’s UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign, which has added to speculation over his immediate future. Standing at 1.93m and left-footed, he offers a profile that is relatively uncommon among experienced Bundesliga defenders, a factor believed to appeal to Bremen as they shape their squad.

For now, the chances of a transfer are regarded as relatively slim, with the move rated at around 10% likelihood and Besiktas in a strong position thanks to Uduokhai’s contract running for another year beyond this season. The Istanbul club are not under pressure to sell, and any development is expected to hinge on whether Bremen convert their interest into a concrete bid.
