Champions League dream: Nigeria’s Emmanuel Ayaosi ready to prove he belongs after Slavia Prague move

Emmanuel Ayaosi believes his move to Slavia Prague is the perfect platform to prove he belongs among Europe’s elite after completing a career-defining switch from Karvina to the Czech champions.

The 21-year-old Nigerian attacker sealed his transfer after an outstanding campaign that established him as one of the Chance Liga’s most productive performers, contributing six goals and seven assists. Having officially joined Slavia at the start of July, Ayaosi has wasted little time settling into his new surroundings as he prepares for the biggest challenge of his career.

“Moving to Prague is a huge step towards big-time football for me,” Ayaosi told Flashscore.

His rise has been remarkable. Arriving in the Czech Republic as an 18-year-old for a trial with Karvina, Ayaosi progressed through the youth ranks before becoming one of the club’s standout first-team players. That rapid development convinced Slavia to secure his signature, giving him the opportunity to compete for domestic honours and, potentially, Champions League football.

Reflecting on the season that transformed his career, Ayaosi admitted he always believed he possessed the ability but needed the numbers to match his talent.

“It was a breakthrough year for me. I knew I had it in me,” he said.

Adapting to life at Czech champions

The transition from Karvina to Slavia has brought a completely different level of expectation. Ayaosi revealed the opening weeks were demanding as he adjusted to the relentless intensity required at one of the country’s biggest clubs.

“Huge,” he replied when asked whether the difference between the two clubs was significant.

“Everything is much faster-paced, and if you switch off for a moment, you’re in trouble. Everyone here is extremely ambitious; winning is the only acceptable result.”

Despite the steep learning curve, the versatile forward has been encouraged by his early performances. Comfortable operating on either wing, in midfield or even at full-back, Ayaosi believes his adaptability can become one of his greatest strengths under head coach Jindrich Trpisovsky.

The Nigerian also credited the club’s strong African contingent, including compatriots David Moses, Mubarak Suleiman and Samuel Isife, for making his integration easier. Having former Karvina teammate Pavel Kacor alongside him has also helped ease the transition.

Champions League ambition driving decision

Ayaosi revealed that conversations with Trpisovsky played a decisive role in choosing Slavia over other options. The coach’s long-term vision for his development, coupled with the opportunity to feature in the UEFA Champions League, convinced him Prague was the ideal destination.

“It was about things I should add to my game, and he outlined how I could reach my long-term goals faster,” Ayaosi explained.

“Plus, we’ll be playing in the Champions League, which was also a very important factor in my decision. If I get to play, it would be one of the biggest moments of my life.”

While he remains focused on earning regular minutes, Ayaosi is determined to justify the faith Slavia have placed in him.

“I just try to give everything on the pitch and hope it’ll be enough to get as many minutes as possible.”

From Nigeria to Europe with a purpose

Ayaosi’s journey began with a life-changing phone call offering him a trial in the Czech Republic. Leaving Nigeria at 18 brought cultural challenges, unfamiliar weather and language barriers, but he never lost sight of his objective.

“We Africans come to Europe with a mission and a goal. We don’t come here just for the sake of it.”

Beyond personal success, the forward says his motivation is rooted in supporting his family and inspiring those back home, where every step of his career is closely followed.

Although Ayaosi dreams of one day playing for Borussia Dortmund, he insists his immediate focus is establishing himself at Slavia. After years of steady progress, the Nigerian now has the stage he always wanted – and the chance to prove he belongs among Europe’s best.
