Ex-Durban City striker Lindokuhle Chonco training with new PSL side Orbit College after release

Former Durban City forward Lindokuhle Chonco has started training with fellow Premier Soccer League side Orbit College after being released by the Nedbank Cup holders at the end of last season.

The 22-year-old is believed to have already agreed terms with Orbit College, who will also campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, although no formal announcement has yet been made by the club.

“Yes, the boy is here at Orbit College. He has already signed I believe,” an insider at the club told reporters, indicating the move is effectively complete pending official confirmation.

Chonco was among nine players let go by Durban City as part of a squad overhaul led by new head coach Khalil Ben Youssef, who took charge following the club’s successful 2025/26 campaign.

Contract expiry ends two-year spell

Durban City confirmed Chonco’s departure when his contract expired at the conclusion of last season, bringing to an end a two-year spell that began in August 2024.

Over that period he developed a reputation as one of the club’s brighter young prospects, featuring for both the senior side and the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team.

Chonco originally joined Durban City from Hammersdale-based amateur side Mophela Soccer Development, moving into the professional ranks ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Cup success and promotion

During his time with The Citizens, Chonco was part of the squad that secured promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship and then went on to lift the Nedbank Cup in the 2025/26 season.

Although not a prolific scorer at senior level, he contributed across competitions in the club’s promotion push and subsequent top-flight campaign.

In the second tier, Chonco made 15 appearances for Durban City, scoring two goals and registering two assists in all competitions.

DDC hat-trick highlights breakthrough

It was in the DStv Diski Challenge where Chonco produced his most eye-catching performance, grabbing national attention last season with a first-half hat-trick against Orlando Pirates.

That display earned him the Man of the Match award and underlined his attacking potential at development level.

Across the 2025/26 DDC campaign, he netted 11 goals and provided seven assists in just six appearances for Durban City’s reserve side, underlining the impact he made when given regular minutes.

Fresh start at Orbit College

Orbit College, who are building their squad for the new campaign, have moved to bring in Chonco as they look to strengthen their attacking options in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

For the player, the move offers an opportunity to convert his DStv Diski Challenge form into consistent senior performances after limited top-tier involvement at Durban City.

No contract details have been made public, but Chonco is expected to continue training with Orbit College as preparations intensify for the forthcoming season.
