Ismael Bennacer: Algeria Midfielder Linked with Al-Gharafa Move from AC Milan

Ismael Bennacer, the Algeria international midfielder at AC Milan, is being linked with a move to Qatari Stars League side Al-Gharafa as the Serie A club weigh up the 28-year-old’s future.

The defensive midfielder, who is under contract at San Siro until 30 June 2027, has seen his market value fall to around €8 million after previously peaking at €40 million. That decline, combined with his contract situation, is understood to have opened the door to interest from abroad, with Al-Gharafa emerging as a potential destination as they look to reinforce the spine of their team.

Bennacer joined Milan on 4 August 2019 and grew into a central figure in their midfield, playing a part in the club’s resurgence that culminated in the 2021-22 Scudetto. He added the Italian Super Cup with Milan in 2024-25, further underlining his role in a successful period for the Rossoneri.

On the international stage, the Arles-born left-footer has been a key presence for Algeria, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and earning individual recognition as both Best Young Player and Player of the Tournament during that triumph. His experience and profile are thought to be major attractions for Al-Gharafa as they attempt to compete for domestic honours.

No agreement has been reached and the deal remains at the rumour stage, but with Milan facing a decision over a player tied down for just one more year beyond the coming season, Bennacer’s future is expected to be a live topic as the transfer window develops.
