Jean-Matteo Bahoya: Roma eye move for Frankfurt’s Franco-Cameroonian winger
Jean-Matteo Bahoya, the French-Cameroonian left winger currently at Eintracht Frankfurt, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Roma. The 21-year-old, who is under contract in Germany until 30 June 2029, has emerged as a potential attacking option for the Italian club as they explore wide reinforcements.
Bahoya’s development in Frankfurt has been reflected in a sharp rise in his valuation, with the forward now rated at around €25m. Any deal is therefore expected to require a substantial fee, with Frankfurt in a strong negotiating position given the length of his contract and his status within the squad.
Frankfurt signed Bahoya from Angers SCO in January 2024 for €8m, recruiting him initially from Ligue 1 as a relatively low-cost investment. Since then the right-footed left winger has established himself in the Bundesliga, adding pace and depth to the German club’s attacking options from the flank.
Born in Montfermeil on 7 May 2005 and standing at 1.80m, Bahoya is eligible for both France and Cameroon, though his rise at club level has so far been the key driver of interest from abroad. His performances in Germany have drawn wider scouting attention, with Roma now among the clubs monitoring his situation.
With no release clause and three years left on his deal, Frankfurt are under no pressure to sell, and Roma would likely need to present a significant offer to test their resolve. For now, Bahoya remains a Frankfurt player with a long-term contract and a market value that underlines his importance to the Bundesliga side.
