Marseille weigh future of Morocco international Nayef Aguerd

Morocco international Nayef Aguerd could leave Olympique de Marseille before the end of the summer transfer window, with growing interest from clubs in the Gulf putting the defender’s future at the French club in doubt.

According to reports in France, Marseille are assessing the 30-year-old’s situation after an injury-hit first season, with a potential transfer seen as a solution that could benefit both the player and the club.

Injury-hit campaign raises questions

French newspaper La Provence, as reported by Ouest-France, says Aguerd’s future has become a subject of discussion despite only joining Marseille from West Ham United last summer in a deal reportedly worth around €23 million.

The Atlas Lions centre-back struggled with a groin injury during the 2025-26 campaign, restricting his appearances and preventing him from becoming a regular starter.

As a result, speculation over his future has intensified ahead of the closing stages of the transfer window.

Gulf clubs monitoring situation

The report adds that several clubs from the Gulf region are closely tracking Aguerd and could make an approach before the transfer window closes.

Although the Moroccan defender remains under contract with Marseille until June 2030, his reported release clause of around €15 million could make a move financially attractive for interested clubs.

According to the report, a transfer may suit both parties.

For Aguerd, a move could provide the opportunity to regain regular first-team football after an injury-disrupted season.
