Manchester United keep Manu Kone and Carlos Baleba top of midfield shortlist

Manchester United are continuing their search for a third midfield recruit, with Manu Kone and Carlos Baleba now viewed as the leading options to complete their summer rebuild.

The club have already brought in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, but believe there is room for one more addition to further strengthen the heart of the team.

Sky Sports report that United retain a long‑standing interest in Brighton midfielder Baleba, even though he struggled for form last season and any move would require a compromise over his valuation. Baleba has been keen to join Manchester United since last summer, according to reports in England, and the club’s transfer policy favours players who are strongly motivated to come, which means he fits the Red Devils’ requirements well.

Roma’s Manu Kone is seen as a more affordable alternative, with United having explored the conditions of a possible deal for the Frenchman after the World Cup.

However, no agreement is close and the club are taking a patient, measured approach as they weigh up both profiles and the financial implications of each move. According to Transfermarkt, Kone’s market value is €50m, and Baleba’s market value is €55m.
