Sheyi Ojo: Former Liverpool winger linked with move to Kazakhstan’s Aktobe

England-born Nigeria-eligible winger Sheyi Ojo, currently without a club after leaving NK Maribor, is being linked with a move to Kazakhstan Premier Liga side Aktobe. The 29-year-old is understood to be assessing his options following the end of his spell in Slovenia, with Aktobe exploring a deal as they look to reinforce their attacking options from the free-agent market.

Ojo, a left-footed right winger, became a free agent on 1 July 2026 after departing Maribor, where he had arrived on a free transfer from Cardiff City in September 2024. His current market value is estimated at around €600,000, a figure that would make him a relatively low-risk addition for a club in Kazakhstan seeking proven experience from European leagues.

The Hemel Hempstead-born wide player previously had a lengthy spell on Liverpool’s books, punctuated by a series of loans that included Cardiff, Millwall, Rangers, Fulham and French side Stade Reims, before leaving Anfield permanently for Cardiff in 2022. His most recent sustained run of football in a major league came in the Championship with Cardiff, followed by a season in Belgium with KV Kortrijk on loan in 2023–24.

Aktobe’s interest comes at a stage in Ojo’s career where his focus is expected to be on regular playing time and stability after several moves across Europe. With no transfer fee required, any agreement would centre on personal terms and the role on offer, and Ojo remains a free agent as discussions over his next club continue.
