Jonathan Kafu: German-DR Congo midfielder leaves Fortuna Koln to become free agent

German-DR Congo defensive midfielder Jonathan Kafu has left Fortuna Koln to become a free agent after helping the club secure the Regionalliga West title.

The 19-year-old, who was born in Frechen and stands at 1.70m, departs the Cologne side following their 2025-26 campaign, in which Fortuna Koln were crowned champions of the German Regionalliga West. Kafu is now listed without a club as of 23 July 2026.

Capable of screening the back line from his preferred role in defensive midfield and operating predominantly on his right foot, Kafu moves into the open market at a key stage of his early career. His exit from Fortuna Koln comes after he was part of a squad that climbed out of the regional divisions, adding a league winners’ medal to his record at a young age.

Kafu, who holds both German and DR Congo nationality, developed his game in the German system and earned recognition with Fortuna Koln during their push for honours in the Regionalliga West. His progress in a competitive environment has put him on the radar as a versatile midfield option for clubs looking to strengthen their central areas.

Having officially left Fortuna Koln on 23 July 2026, Kafu is now available to sign for a new club as a free agent.
