Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat becomes latest Al-Ittihad midfield target

Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat has emerged as the latest midfielder on Al-Ittihad’s transfer shortlist, with the Saudi Pro League club facing competition from fellow top-flight side Al-Qadsiah for his signature.

The Fenerbahce midfielder has reportedly joined compatriot Azzedine Ounahi among Al-Ittihad’s preferred options as the club looks to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.

Saudi rivals battle for Morocco international

According to reports carried by Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, citing Turkish outlet Fanatik, Al-Ittihad are interested in bringing Amrabat to Saudi Arabia during the current transfer window.

However, Al-Qadsiah have already taken the lead by submitting a reported €20 million offer to Fenerbahce for the 28-year-old midfielder.

Al-Ittihad are yet to make an official bid, although reports suggest the club could match Al-Qadsiah’s proposal, setting up a direct battle between the two Saudi sides for the Morocco international.

Fenerbahce weighing offers

Fenerbahce have not yet made a decision on Amrabat’s future as they assess the offers received and consider the impact his departure could have on the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The experienced midfielder remains an important figure for the Turkish club, with his future expected to become clearer before the transfer window closes.

Midfield remains a priority

Al-Ittihad continue to explore several options as they seek reinforcements in midfield.

In addition to Amrabat and Morocco teammate Azzedine Ounahi, the Saudi club have also been linked with Egypt internationals Emam Ashour and Marwan Attia, both of Al Ahly, as well as Nigeria’s Raphael Onyedika of Belgian side Club Brugge.

The growing interest in Amrabat highlights the increasing demand for African talent in the Saudi Pro League, with several of the continent’s leading midfielders attracting attention ahead of the new season.
