Morocco’s Hrimat leaves AS FAR after trophy-filled spell

Moroccan midfielder Rabie Hrimat has announced his departure from AS FAR, ending a successful five-year stay in which he helped the military club return to the summit of Moroccan football and established himself as one of its most influential figures.

The 31-year-old confirmed his exit in an emotional message posted on Instagram on Wednesday, with reports suggesting he is set to continue his career in the Qatar Stars League with Al Shamal.

“After the beautiful years I spent with the team of my heart, the time has come to say goodbye,” he wrote. “It is one of the hardest words for a player who became attached to this shirt, its supporters and its great history.”

Captain who restored AS FAR’s winning tradition

Hrimat joined AS FAR in November 2020 after spells with FUS Rabat, Union de Salé and Kénitra Athletic Club, quickly becoming a key figure in midfield before later being entrusted with the captain’s armband.

Renowned for his leadership and ability to dictate the tempo of matches, he played a pivotal role in the club’s resurgence, helping AS FAR lift the 2020-21 Throne Cup with a 3-0 victory over Moghreb Tetouan in the 2022 final.

He also captained the Rabat giants to the 2022-23 Botola Pro title, ending a 15-year wait for the league championship.

Reflecting on his achievements, Hrimat said:

“I leave after contributing, alongside everyone at the club, to winning two titles that will remain engraved in my memory forever.”

Although he admitted the club had hoped to collect more silverware, the midfielder said he remained proud of what was achieved during his time in Rabat.

Emotional farewell to supporters

Hrimat paid tribute to AS FAR’s supporters, describing them as the driving force behind the team’s successes and resilience during more difficult moments.

He also expressed his gratitude to the club’s management, coaching staff and teammates.

“I did not hold back a single drop of sweat, and I spared no effort in defending the club on and off the pitch with pride, honesty and loyalty,” Hrimat said.

He added:

“I experienced unforgettable moments with this team. I shared the joy of victories and the difficulty of challenges with its supporters, and I had the honor of leading a group of men who fought for this badge.”

For the midfielder, AS FAR became much more than a football club.

“It was a home, a family and a part of my life that will remain in my heart for as long as I live,” he added.

Qatar move expected

Moroccan media reports indicate Hrimat is close to joining Qatar Stars League side Al Shamal on a two-year contract with the option of a further season.

If completed, the transfer would mark the first move abroad in the Rabat-born midfielder’s career after establishing himself as one of Morocco’s standout domestic players.

His reputation has grown significantly in recent years following impressive displays for Morocco’s locally based national team. Hrimat was named the best player at the 2024 African Nations Championship after helping Morocco win the title and also claimed the Golden Ball at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup, where the Atlas Lions lifted another trophy.

Those performances reportedly attracted interest from several Gulf clubs before Al Shamal emerged as his expected destination.

Hrimat ended his farewell by thanking everyone connected with AS FAR and expressing his hope that the club’s recent success continues.

“Today, I open a new page in my sporting career and begin a new experience, but I leave carrying priceless memories and great love for this club and its supporters,” he said.

“Thank you for the trust, love and support. I sincerely hope that AS FAR continues winning titles, making its supporters happy and remaining in the position it deserves among the biggest clubs.”
