Christian Ebere: Vasco da Gama eye move for Cruz Azul’s Nigerian forward

Christian Ebere, the Nigerian centre-forward currently at CD Cruz Azul, is being linked with a move to Brazilian side Vasco da Gama as the Rio de Janeiro club explore attacking reinforcements ahead of the next Serie A campaign.

The 28-year-old, who joined Cruz Azul in February 2026, is under contract with the Mexican club until December 2028 but remains on the radar of Vasco after a series of productive seasons in South America. His current market valuation stands at around €1 million, a figure that would represent a relatively modest outlay for a player with recent title-winning experience.

Ebere has started the new Liga MX Apertura season with one goal in his first two appearances, featuring in half of Cruz Azul’s starting line-ups so far and contributing to 20% of the team’s goals in those matches. He played a part in Cruz Azul’s Mexican Clausura triumph in 2025-26, scoring four goals in that campaign after arriving from Plaza Colonia.

Before moving to Mexico, Ebere spent several years in Uruguay and Brazil, including a spell at Club Nacional where he was part of the side that won the Uruguayan championship in 2024-25. Earlier in his career, he came through Taye Academy in Nigeria and gained experience across a series of loans in Brazilian football.

Any deal for Ebere would require Vasco to negotiate with Cruz Azul, who secured him for a reported €1.27 million fee and have him tied down for another two and a half years.
