Sayibu Yakubu: Ghana defender joins Karvina from SJK Seinajoki

Ghanaian centre-back Sayibu Yakubu has joined Czech side Karvina from Finnish club SJK Seinajoki. The 20-year-old defender moves to the Czech league after a breakthrough spell in Finland’s top flight.

Yakubu, who stands at 1.88m, leaves SJK having established himself across league and cup competitions. Capable of operating at the heart of defence, he adds height and mobility to a Karvina back line preparing for the new campaign in the Czech National League.

The transfer continues a rapid rise for Yakubu, whose senior career in Europe began in April 2024 when he left Ghanaian club Vision FC to sign for SJK’s reserve side. He was promoted to the SJK first team at the start of 2026 and has since gained regular minutes in the Veikkausliiga and domestic cups.

Across league and cup competitions in Finland, Yakubu amassed more than 50 senior appearances, scoring in both the top division and the Suomen Cup while also featuring in lower-tier and cup competitions during his development. His game time in Finland included extended runs in Ykkosliiga and the Veikkausliiga, underlining his experience at different competitive levels despite his age.

Yakubu’s move comes with his market value currently listed at €50,000, reflecting his growing status after two years in the Finnish system.

The Ghanaian defender now begins the next phase of his career in the Czech Republic, completing a transfer from SJK Seinajoki to Karvina ahead of the 2026–27 season.
