Breel Embolo: Switzerland Forward Linked with Shock Move from Rennes to MLS Side Atlanta
Breel Embolo, the Switzerland international centre-forward currently at Stade Rennais, is being linked with a summer move to MLS club Atlanta in what would be one of the most eye-catching transatlantic transfers of this window.
The 29-year-old, who also has Cameroonian nationality, is under contract with the Ligue 1 side until 30 June 2029, meaning any deal is expected to require a significant fee, with his current market valuation understood to be in the region of €15 million. Early discussions are believed to centre on how Atlanta could structure an offer that reflects that valuation while fitting within MLS roster and budget rules.
Rennes’ stance is thought to be cautious, with the French club aware that losing an experienced centre-forward still in his peak years would require a clear replacement plan. Embolo remains a prominent attacking option for the Brittany side, and the length of his contract places them in a strong negotiating position.
For Atlanta, the pursuit of a high-profile European-based striker fits with a broader push to reinforce their attacking options with established international pedigree. The MLS club are understood to see Embolo’s age profile and top-level experience as aligning with an ambition to compete more aggressively in both domestic competition and continental fixtures.
With the transfer window ongoing, talks are at an exploratory stage and no agreement is in place, but Embolo’s long-term deal in Rennes and the scale of his valuation are likely to be central factors in whether negotiations develop further.
