Aladji Bamba: Newcastle eye move for Monaco’s French-Guinean midfielder

Aladji Bamba, the French-Guinean defensive midfielder currently at Monaco, is being linked with a move to Premier League side Newcastle United. The 20-year-old, who wears No 23 for the Ligue 1 club, is under contract at the Stade Louis-II until 30 June 2030, meaning any deal is likely to require a significant fee.

Bamba’s emergence with Monaco’s first team has attracted interest from England after he stepped up from the club’s youth ranks ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. He has already made 18 Ligue 1 appearances, registering two assists, and has featured in both the UEFA Champions League and domestic cups for the principality side.

Born in Blois in July 2006, Bamba has represented Monaco throughout his development, progressing from the U17s to the U19s before joining the senior squad in July 2025. He was part of the Monaco U19 side that won the French Youth Cup in 2022-23, a success that underlined his status within the club’s academy structure.

Newcastle’s interest comes at a time when Bamba’s market value stands at around €18 million, reflecting his growing role at Monaco and exposure to top-level European competition. Standing at 1.81m and operating primarily as a defensive midfielder with a right-footed profile, he offers a skill set that has become increasingly sought after by clubs looking to strengthen the centre of the pitch.
