Mervin Kasetura: Namibian goalkeeper at African Stars linked with move to South Africa’s Gomora United

Namibian goalkeeper Mervin Kasetura of African Stars is being linked with a move to South African side Gomora United, in what would be a significant cross-border switch for the 28-year-old.

Kasetura has been with African Stars since January 2022, having joined the Windhoek club at the start of the 2021-22 season. During that time he has established himself within the squad as a senior option in goal, wearing the number 16 shirt for one of Namibia’s most prominent teams.

Gomora United are understood to be exploring options to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new campaign, with Kasetura emerging as a candidate as they look to tap into the Namibian market. The proposed move would see him swap the Namibian top flight for the South African game, a step that has attracted a growing number of players from the region in recent years.

Born on 26 December 1997, Kasetura is in what is typically considered a goalkeeper’s peak age bracket and any transfer would offer Gomora United an experienced option between the posts. His development at African Stars since arriving just over four years ago is believed to have drawn attention from outside Namibia.
