Akram Djahnit: Algeria playmaker leaves ES Setif and becomes free agent

Algerian attacking midfielder Akram Djahnit has left ES Setif and is now a free agent after his contract with the Ligue 1 club ended. The 35-year-old, who was born in Setif and built much of his career there, departs the Algerian top flight side to continue his career without a club attached for the first time.

Djahnit rejoined ES Setif in July 2024 on a free transfer from USM Alger, returning to the club where he came through the youth ranks and made his senior breakthrough. His latest move away from Setif marks the end of another spell at his hometown team, with his current market value listed at €125,000.

An attacking midfielder by trade and right-footed, Djahnit has amassed substantial experience in domestic and continental competition. He has made 317 appearances in the Algerian Ligue 1, contributing 45 goals and 47 assists, and has also featured prominently on the African stage with 47 CAF Champions League appearances, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists.

Djahnit’s career highlights include winning the CAF Champions League with ES Setif in 2013-14 and lifting the CAF Confederation Cup with USM Alger in 2022-23. Domestically, he has been part of four Algerian championship-winning campaigns and an Algerian Cup triumph with ES Setif, as well as being named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 2013-14 and Best Young Player earlier in his career.

After his departure from ES Setif on 22 July 2026, Djahnit is officially unattached and available to sign for a new club.
