The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has come under scrutiny from the Ghanaian press for allegedly attributing three different dates of birth to Ghanaian international Richard Kingson. The goalkeeper, who was recalled to the national team for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, is officially 35 years old, but some local media reports suggest he is 40.
According to CAF’s official documents, Richard Kingson was born on June 13, 1978. However, the Ghanaian press has raised questions about the inconsistency in his reported age. CAF, headed by Issa Hayatou, denies any involvement in falsifying Kingson’s dates of birth, stating that the allegations are false and unfounded.
Richard Kingson, known as “Olele” in Ghana, has had a long international career, having played alongside football legends such as Abedi Pelé and Kwesi Appiah in the 1990s. His return to the national team for the upcoming match against Egypt has sparked controversy within Ghana.
