CAF opens commercial rights tender for AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions
Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that the continental football governing body has launched the Commercial Rights Invitation to Tender (ITT) process for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments scheduled for 2028, 2032 and 2036.
Addressing the media in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Dr Motsepe revealed that CAF has received several strong proposals from leading international marketing and commercial rights agencies seeking to partner with the organisation in managing and maximising the commercial potential of Africa’s flagship football competition.
According to the CAF President, the tender process forms part of the organisation’s broader strategy to increase the financial value of AFCON while creating greater opportunities for investment and growth across African football.
“The Commercial Rights Invitation to Tender for the AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 has been launched, and we have received numerous attractive approaches from leading international marketing and commercial rights agencies interested in partnering with CAF,” Dr Motsepe said.
The objective of the ITT is to secure the best possible commercial partnerships that will enhance the global appeal and financial strength of the AFCON tournament.
CAF believes that improved commercial returns from its flagship competition will have a direct impact on football development across the continent, supporting all 54 Member Associations and strengthening the organisation’s various competitions.
The move comes as CAF continues efforts to modernise its commercial structure, increase revenue streams and ensure that more resources are invested into infrastructure, grassroots development, national teams and football programmes across Africa.
The AFCON remains Africa’s most prestigious football tournament, attracting millions of supporters globally and providing a major platform for showcasing the continent’s football talent.
With the bidding process for future AFCON hosting rights also underway, CAF is positioning the competition for further growth and increased international relevance in the coming years.
