CAF opens bidding process for AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 hosting rights

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for Member Associations interested in hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments in 2028, 2032 and 2036.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the process is already underway, with several countries expressing interest and submitting their proposals to stage Africa’s biggest football competition.

According to Motsepe, the bidding exercise has been progressing smoothly, with CAF receiving a number of exciting bids from potential host nations seeking the opportunity to showcase African football on the continental stage.

“The bidding process is progressing very well, and numerous exciting bids have been submitted by potential host countries,” Motsepe said.

The CAF President added that further announcements regarding the successful bidders will be made at the appropriate time after the evaluation process has been completed.

The decision on the hosts for the three editions of the tournament is expected to follow CAF’s assessment of the submitted bids, taking into consideration key factors such as infrastructure, stadium facilities, accommodation, transport systems and overall readiness to host a major international competition.

The latest development comes as CAF continues to expand and strengthen the profile of the AFCON, which remains one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world.

Morocco hosted the 2025 edition of the competition, while Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are scheduled to jointly host the 2027 AFCON tournament, marking the first time the competition will be staged in East Africa.
