CAF to distribute $1m to every member association for football development

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will provide each of its member associations with $1 million to support football development across the continent, CAF president Patrice Motsepe has announced.

The funding initiative follows an increase in commercial backing for the continental governing body and is aimed at helping national associations strengthen the development of the game at all levels.

Investment aimed at growing African football

Speaking on Wednesday, Motsepe said CAF’s improved financial position, driven by new sponsorship agreements, has made it possible to increase support for its member associations.

He stressed that the funding is intended specifically for football development, with each association expected to invest the money in programmes that will help grow the sport.

CAF secures stronger financial backing

Motsepe believes the additional resources will play an important role in improving football infrastructure, youth development and the overall standard of the game across Africa.

“We have had a lot of sponsors coming on board for CAF, and every member association will get $1m and that money must be used for football development,” Dr. Patrice Motsepe said.

The announcement represents one of CAF’s most significant financial commitments to its 54 member associations as the governing body seeks to accelerate the growth and competitiveness of African football.
