Malang Sarr: France-Senegal defender joins NEOM SC on free transfer from Lens

France-Senegal centre-back Malang Sarr has joined Saudi Pro League side NEOM SC on a free transfer from French Cup holders Lens. The 27-year-old left-footer moves after his contract in Ligue 1 ended, signing for the ambitious Saudi club on 22 July 2026.

Sarr, who was born in Nice and stands at 1.83m, adds top-level European experience to NEOM SC’s defence following spells in France, England and Portugal. His arrival comes with a current market valuation of €20m, underlining the scale of the acquisition for the Saudi Pro League side.

The defender spent the last two seasons with Lens, having arrived there from Chelsea in 2024, also on a free transfer. He played a key role in a successful 2025-26 campaign, helping the club secure the French Cup, the second major trophy of his career.

Before his time at Lens, Sarr was on the books at Chelsea, where he won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2022. His time with the London club included loan spells at Porto and Monaco, adding Champions League and Europa League minutes to a growing body of top-flight experience.

Sarr first emerged at hometown club Nice, progressing from the youth ranks to the first team and going on to make 169 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists while establishing himself as a reliable centre-back option.

Malang Sarr’s move to NEOM SC from Lens is a completed free transfer, with the defender now registered as a Saudi Pro League player.
