Cameroon-South Africa defender Loic Ombala has joined FC Biel-Bienne on a free transfer from Vevey-Sports, strengthening the Promotion League side’s options at right-back. The 29-year-old moves within Swiss football after a spell in the 1. Liga, where he had been featuring for Vevey-Sports.

Ombala, who is primarily a right-back, arrives as Biel-Bienne look to reinforce their squad for the challenges of Switzerland’s third tier. The deal is a permanent move and comes with no transfer fee, allowing the club to add experience to their back line without a financial outlay.

The defender leaves Vevey-Sports, who compete in 1. Liga Group 1, having established himself in the Swiss lower leagues. His switch to Biel-Bienne represents a step up in competition, with the Promotion League sitting one level above his former side’s division in the national pyramid.

Born in 1996, Ombala brings both defensive discipline and versatility on the flank, drawing on his background in two footballing cultures through his Cameroonian and South African nationality. His arrival adds depth in a specialist position and increases competition for places in the Biel-Bienne defence.

Ombala’s transfer was completed on 21 July 2026, confirming his status as an FC Biel-Bienne player for the new Promotion League campaign.
