Tshegofatso Mabasa: South African free agent linked with Pyramids FC move

South African centre-forward Tshegofatso Mabasa, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids FC. The 29-year-old, who left his last club at the start of July, is understood to be on the radar of the Cairo outfit as they look to add proven continental experience to their attack.

Mabasa, born in Botshabelo in South Africa’s Free State, is a left-footed striker with extensive experience in the South African top flight. Across his Betway Premiership career he has scored 53 goals in 184 appearances, averaging a goal roughly every two full matches. His record in domestic cup competitions is similarly notable, with nine goals in 18 Nedbank Cup games.

On the continental stage, Mabasa has featured in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, making a combined 28 appearances in the two competitions. That exposure to African competition is thought to be a key factor in Pyramids FC’s interest as they aim to strengthen a squad regularly involved in CAF tournaments.

Mabasa’s stock has risen significantly over the past two seasons, highlighted by a standout 2025-26 campaign in which he helped Orlando Pirates secure the South African league title. He was also part of the Pirates side that lifted the MTN8 Cup in 2025-26, one of several domestic trophies he collected with the Soweto club.

With an estimated market value of around €1.3 million but currently unattached, Mabasa represents a potential value signing, and any agreement with Pyramids FC is expected to be straightforward from a contractual standpoint, with the forward free to negotiate terms immediately.
