Segun Adekunle: Nigerian defender joins Barau FC from Nasarawa United in NPFL move
Nigerian centre-back Segun Adekunle has joined Barau FC from Nasarawa United, completing a move within the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The 25-year-old defender links up with his new club ahead of the 2026-27 season, strengthening Barau FC’s options at the heart of their back line.
Adekunle, a right-footed central defender, arrives at Barau FC with a current market value of €50,000. He moves after a short stint with Nasarawa United, whom he joined earlier in 2026. The transfer continues a steady rise through the Nigerian game for the player, who has now represented several NPFL sides.
Born on 30 September 2000, Adekunle has already accumulated experience across multiple clubs in the country. Before his time at Nasarawa United, he featured for Katsina United and Kwara United, following a spell with Bayelsa. His switch to Bayelsa in 2023 came after leaving ASSC on a free transfer, marking his first significant step into the national spotlight.
Adekunle’s CV also includes silverware, having been part of a side that won the Nigerian Cup once, underlining his exposure to high-stakes domestic competition. That experience, combined with his successive moves through top-flight teams, adds competitive depth to Barau FC’s defensive unit.
The move, completed on 21 July 2026, sees Adekunle officially registered as a Barau FC player for the upcoming NPFL campaign.
