Adolf Bitegeko: Tanzanian midfielder joins Kaizer Chiefs from Azam FC in completed transfer

Tanzania defensive midfielder Adolf Bitegeko has joined South African giants Kaizer Chiefs from Azam FC in a completed move announced on 21 July 2026. The 27-year-old, who operates primarily in front of the back four, leaves his homeland to take up a new challenge in the Betway Premiership.

Bitegeko arrives at Chiefs after a spell with Azam that included appearances in the CAF Champions League, adding continental experience to his resume before moving to Johannesburg. His switch marks a significant step for the Bukoba-born midfielder, who has rebuilt his career steadily in recent years.

Before returning to Tanzania with Azam, Bitegeko spent several seasons in Iceland, turning out for KR Reykjavik, Keflavik and Volsungur IF. He first moved to KR Reykjavik in 2018, later enjoying a loan stint at Keflavik, and then joined Volsungur IF in 2021 after a period without a club.

Across his time in Iceland’s leagues, Bitegeko made more than 60 appearances in the second and first tiers, contributing goals from deep midfield and accumulating extensive minutes in competitive European club football. Listed at 1.78m and right-footed, he offers a physically robust and disciplined presence in the centre of the pitch.

Bitegeko last moved clubs in January 2024, when he joined Azam FC on a free transfer from Volsungur IF, and he now makes the jump to South African football with Kaizer Chiefs as a full member of their first-team squad.
