Abdul Mumin: Ghana-Nigeria defender linked with surprise Getafe move after Rayo exit
Ghana-Nigeria centre-back Abdul Mumin, currently a free agent after leaving Rayo Vallecano, is being linked with a move to LaLiga side Getafe. The 28-year-old defender, born in Accra and standing at 1.88m, is without a club following the end of his spell in Vallecas and is understood to be under consideration as Getafe look to reinforce their back line ahead of the new season.
Mumin, who is right-footed and operates primarily as a central defender, holds a market valuation of around €3 million. His availability without a transfer fee is thought to make him an appealing option for clubs in Spain’s top flight, with Getafe among those monitoring his situation closely.
The defender left Rayo Vallecano on 1 July 2026, having joined the Madrid club from Vitoria Guimaraes in September 2022 for a fee of €1.5 million. His move to Spain followed a steady rise through European football, with earlier stints at Danish side Nordsjaelland after progressing from the Right to Dream academy.
Mumin’s most recent competitive football came with Rayo, where he established himself in LaLiga before his contract came to an end this summer. With no agreement yet announced with any new side, his status as a free agent gives Getafe flexibility in terms of timing and structure of any potential deal.
For now, the defender remains unattached as talks and interest continue to develop around his next destination.
