Abdu Lumala: Uganda forward linked with Slaven Belupo return

Uganda centre-forward Abdu Lumala, currently without a club, is being linked with a move back to Croatian side Slaven Belupo in the SuperSport HNL. The 29-year-old is a free agent after leaving Indian side Gokulam FC on 30 November 2024 and is being monitored as a potential attacking reinforcement ahead of the new campaign.

Lumala previously spent part of the 2023-24 season with Slaven Belupo, joining the club in March 2024 before moving on to Gokulam FC that summer. His familiarity with the league and the Koprivnica club’s set-up is understood to be a key factor in the renewed interest, with any deal likely to be straightforward as no transfer fee would be involved.

The forward has built a varied career across several countries, including spells in Sweden, Egypt, Uganda and Croatia. His most consistent run of games came in Sweden’s second tier, where he made 75 Superettan appearances and contributed six goals and eight assists, as well as featuring in the Swedish top flight and domestic cup competitions earlier in his career.

Lumala’s most recent stint in Ugandan football came with Vipers, whom he joined from Egyptian side Pyramids FC in July 2022 before first becoming a free agent in early 2024. He then moved to Slaven Belupo and on to India, where he last played before his contract expired.

Talks over a return to Slaven Belupo have not yet produced an agreement, but Lumala remains available on a free transfer and open to offers as he considers his next move.
