Elias Mokwana: South Africa winger linked with move from Esperance to JS Kabylie

South Africa winger Elias Mokwana is being linked with a move from Tunisian champions Esperance to Algerian Ligue 1 side JS Kabylie as the 26-year-old enters the final year of his contract.

Mokwana, who is under contract with Esperance until June 2027, has emerged as a potential target for the Algerian club after two seasons in North Africa that have included domestic success and exposure in continental competition. Any deal is likely to require a fee, with the right winger currently valued at around €600,000.

Since joining Esperance from South African side Sekhukhune in August 2024 for €370,000, Mokwana has featured regularly across league and cup competitions and helped the Tunis outfit secure the Tunisian league title in 2024-25. He has also appeared in the CAF Champions League, scoring three goals in eight matches as Esperance pushed for continental honours.

Mokwana’s time in Tunisia has included a loan spell at Saudi Pro League club Al-Hazem during the 2025-26 season, before he returned to Esperance at the end of that campaign. His experience in both North African and Gulf football is understood to be part of the appeal for JS Kabylie as they look to strengthen their attacking options from the right flank.

Esperance, who also lifted the Tunisian Super Cup in 2024, are not under immediate pressure to sell, but interest from JS Kabylie has put the focus on Mokwana’s medium-term future with the club, with negotiations yet to be formalised.
