Malang Sarr: Former Chelsea defender linked with shock move to Saudi Pro League side NEOM SC

France-Senegal defender Malang Sarr, currently without a club after leaving RC Lens, is being linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side NEOM SC.

The 27-year-old centre-back became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following his departure from Lens, where he had joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2024. NEOM SC are understood to be exploring a deal as they look to reinforce their defensive options ahead of the new Saudi Pro League campaign.

Sarr’s notional market value stands at around €20m, but his free-agent status would allow NEOM SC to negotiate directly with the player without agreeing a transfer fee. Any move would add a defender with extensive top-flight experience, having made 169 Ligue 1 appearances earlier in his career.

The left-footed centre-back has had a varied spell at the highest level, including time in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and a loan stint at Porto, before another loan at Monaco. He also featured in European competition with French and Portuguese clubs, building a profile that has attracted interest from abroad.

Sarr was part of the Chelsea squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2022 and later lifted the French Cup with Lens in the 2025–26 season, adding silverware in both England and France to his CV.

For now, Sarr remains a free agent and is assessing his options, with a potential switch to NEOM SC one of several possibilities under consideration.
