Abdu Lumala: Uganda forward linked with move to Greek side Nestos
Uganda centre-forward Abdu Lumala, currently a free agent after leaving Gokulam FC, is being linked with a move to Greek Super League 2 side Nestos. The 29-year-old, without a club since November 2024, is understood to be under consideration as Nestos look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Lumala’s availability on a free is thought to be a key factor in Nestos’ interest, with the Greek club exploring low-cost options in the market. Any deal would mark the forward’s return to European football following his most recent spell in India with Gokulam FC and a short stint in Croatia’s top flight with Slaven Belupo earlier in the 2023-24 season.
Before moving to North Africa and then back to East Africa, Lumala spent much of his early career in Scandinavia, featuring extensively in Sweden’s Superettan. He made 75 appearances in the division, recording six goals and eight assists, and also gained experience in the Allsvenskan after stepping up with Kalmar FF.
Lumala has more recently played in the Uganda Premier League and the CAF Champions League with Vipers, adding continental minutes to a career that has spanned European, African and Asian competitions. His most prolific spells in front of goal came at youth level in Sweden, where he scored regularly in the U19 and U21 Allsvenskan.
For now, Lumala remains unattached, with Nestos weighing up whether to turn their interest into a concrete offer as they shape their squad for life in Greece’s second tier.
