Mauro Rodrigues: Guinea-Bissau winger joins Botev Plovdiv from Yverdon Sport

Guinea-Bissau and Portugal winger Mauro Rodrigues has joined Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv from Swiss club Yverdon Sport. The 25-year-old right-sided attacker arrives in Plovdiv ahead of the new efbet Liga campaign, with the move confirmed on 20 July 2026.

Rodrigues, who plays primarily as a right winger and favours his right foot, leaves Yverdon after a spell in which he experienced both Swiss top-flight and second-tier football. He had spent the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Ukrainian Premier League outfit FC Oleksandriya before returning to the Swiss club earlier this summer.

Born in Funchal in April 2001 and standing at 1.78m, Rodrigues first established himself in Switzerland with FC Sion. He progressed through Sion’s youth system, moving from their youth ranks to the under-18s, under-21s and then into the first team, before switching to Yverdon Sport in 2022.

During the 2022-23 season, Rodrigues was part of the Yverdon squad that won the Swiss second tier, earning promotion and securing a league winner’s medal. His current market value is listed at €250,000, reflecting his experience across multiple European leagues and his versatility across the attacking line.

Rodrigues joins Botev Plovdiv as the Bulgarian club prepare for the 2026-27 efbet Liga season, with the transfer marking his first move into Bulgarian football.
