Noah Atubolu: Hull City eye move for Germany-Nigeria Freiburg goalkeeper

Hull City are weighing up a move for Germany-Nigeria goalkeeper Noah Atubolu from Freiburg as they explore options to strengthen their squad for the Premier League. The 24-year-old, who is Freiburg’s current No.1, has been linked with a switch to England with the chances of a deal currently rated at around 33%.

Atubolu is under contract with Freiburg until 30 June 2027, meaning Hull would need to agree a substantial fee to prise him away, with the keeper currently valued at about €25 million. Any negotiations are likely to focus on Freiburg’s willingness to cash in on a homegrown player who has progressed through every level of the club’s structure.

Born in Freiburg im Breisgau in May 2002, Atubolu stands at 1.90m and has been part of the first-team set-up since 2021, having stepped up from Freiburg’s second team that year. He has since established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Bundesliga.

Atubolu’s rise at Freiburg has been marked by a German Cup runners-up medal in the 2021-22 season, while at youth level he collected the Fritz Walter Bronze medal in 2023, underlining his reputation within German football circles. He has also been part of Freiburg sides that have achieved promotion from the lower leagues and won national youth honours.

With three years left on his deal and a central role at his boyhood club, Freiburg are in a strong position over Atubolu’s future, and Hull City would likely need to present a compelling offer if the rumoured interest is to develop further.
