Nathan Ngoumou returns after year‑long injury battle

Nathan Ngoumou has finally celebrated his long‑awaited return for Borussia Monchengladbach, ending more than 15 months of frustration and rehab.

The 26‑year‑old featured in the 6–0 friendly win over Wuppertaler SV, pulling on the Gladbach shirt again for the first time since April 2025.

Back then, Ngoumou suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, followed by several minor setbacks that repeatedly stalled his comeback. Against Wuppertal he played 45 minutes at right‑back, an unusual role for the attacking player but an important step in rebuilding match rhythm and confidence.

Coach Eugen Polanski was delighted to see him back: “Nathan has a very difficult year behind him. Now it’s important for him to get a feeling for games again. He definitely did that well.”

According to Rheinische Post, Ngoumou will continue to receive minutes in upcoming friendlies as he fights his way back and showcases his qualities, with his contract running until summer 2027. The Cameroonian has recently been linked with a move to RSC Anderlecht, and this comeback could prove vital both for Gladbach’s planning and for any potential transfer.
