Morocco to face Cape Verde in Women’s AFCON warm-up match
Morocco’s women’s national team will continue their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by taking on Cape Verde in an international friendly on Tuesday at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca.
The fixture forms part of the Atlas Lionesses’ build-up to the continental tournament, which Morocco will host in 2026.
The match is expected to provide the coaching staff with another opportunity to assess the squad as preparations gather pace ahead of the competition.
Head coach Jorge Vilda Rodriguez has scheduled a training session for Sunday as the team begins its final preparations for the encounter.
The session will allow the players to continue their work on tactics and fitness before facing their Cape Verdean counterparts.
Morocco’s technical staff are using the friendly as part of a wider programme aimed at ensuring the squad is ready for the challenges of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The match offers valuable competitive minutes as the team continues its preparations for the tournament.
The final training session before kick-off will be held on Monday at the Père Jégo Stadium, the venue for the friendly.
It will provide the players with an opportunity to complete their preparations on the same pitch where they will face Cape Verde less than 24 hours later.
Media representatives will also be given limited access to Monday’s session. The opening 15 minutes of training will be open to journalists from 5:45pm, allowing photographers and broadcasters to observe the team’s final preparations before the friendly.
The Atlas Lionesses are expected to use the match to build momentum and strengthen their preparations as they continue their countdown to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Facing Cape Verde will provide another important test for Jorge Vilda Rodriguez and his squad as they work towards being fully prepared for the tournament on home soil.
With the friendly scheduled to take place in Casablanca, Morocco’s players will be looking to make the most of another opportunity to fine-tune their performances and continue their preparations under the guidance of Vilda before turning their attention to the Women’s AFCON.
