Kwanda Mngonyama: South African defender joins Kruger United on free transfer

South African centre-back Kwanda Mngonyama has joined Betway Premiership side Kruger United on a free transfer from Bahraini club Al-Ettihad Club.

The 32-year-old moves back into South African football as Kruger United strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign. The switch from Al-Ettihad has been completed without a transfer fee, with Mngonyama available on a free.

Mngonyama, whose market value is currently listed at around €150,000, adds significant experience at the heart of defence for the South African top-flight club. His arrival gives Kruger United a seasoned option in central defence as they look to compete in the Betway Premiership.

The move ends his stint with Al-Ettihad Club in Bahrain, where he had been playing prior to sealing the return to his home country. The transfer was finalised on 19 July 2026, in time for him to be involved in Kruger United’s preparations for the upcoming season.

A specialist centre-back, Mngonyama is expected to operate in his natural role in front of the goalkeeper, offering depth and leadership to the back line. His signing underlines Kruger United’s intent to bolster key areas of the squad with experienced players.

Mngonyama’s free transfer from Al-Ettihad Club to Kruger United is now fully completed, with the defender registered to play in the Betway Premiership.
