Katlego Mohamme: South African free agent linked with Kruger United move

South African defender Katlego Mohamme, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Betway Premiership side Kruger United as the newly promoted outfit looks to reinforce its back line ahead of the new campaign.

Mohamme, 28, became a free agent on 1 July after leaving Sekhukhune, making him an accessible target for clubs seeking experienced cover at centre-back. Kruger United are understood to be exploring a deal that would bring the left-footed defender back into the top flight immediately, with his availability on a free transfer a key factor in their interest.

The Soshanguve-born defender spent last season between Sekhukhune and loan club Chippa United, featuring regularly in the league and domestic cups. Across the campaign he made 24 Betway Premiership appearances and also played in the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup, underlining his familiarity with both domestic and continental competition.

Mohamme’s market value was last updated at around €50,000, a figure that underlines the low-cost nature of any potential deal for Kruger United as they assemble a squad capable of competing at Premiership level. Earlier in his career he lifted the South African league title with Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2022-23 season, adding top-end experience to his CV.

Having also previously turned out for sides including Moroka Swallows, University of Pretoria and SuperSport’s reserve team, Mohamme has built a solid reputation within South African football circles. For now he remains unattached following his departure from Sekhukhune, with discussions over a possible switch to Kruger United yet to progress to an advanced stage.
