Gedson Fernandes: Galatasaray eye move for Spartak Moscow’s Portugal midfielder

Portugal midfielder Gedson Fernandes of Spartak Moscow is being linked with a move to Turkish side Galatasaray in a deal currently rated as having a 60% chance of going through.

The 27-year-old central midfielder, who also holds nationality with Sao Tome and Principe, is under contract with Spartak until 30 June 2029, meaning any agreement would require the Russian club’s consent and is unlikely to come cheaply. His current market valuation stands at around €16m, giving an indication of the level Galatasaray may need to reach to test Spartak’s resolve.

Fernandes only joined Spartak last summer, arriving from Besiktas on 31 July 2025 for a fee of €20.78m after his value had risen sharply during his time in Istanbul. He has already featured in the new campaign, starting and playing the majority of Spartak’s Russian Super Cup match in 2026.

Galatasaray know the player well from his previous spells in Turkey, where he won the Turkish Cup in 2023-24 and the Turkish Super Cup in 2024-25 with Besiktas. That familiarity, combined with his experience across top leagues and European competition, has made him an attractive option as they look to reinforce their midfield for the Super Lig campaign.

Fernandes first made his name at Benfica, where he progressed through the youth ranks to the first team and was part of the side that lifted the Portuguese title in 2018-19, before a series of moves that included a loan stint with Tottenham Hotspur.

For now, Spartak retain a key asset on a long-term deal, and Galatasaray must decide whether to translate their interest into an offer that can persuade the Moscow club to sell.
