Mohamed Sherif: Egypt striker linked with surprise move from Al Ahly to El Masry

Egypt international forward Mohamed Sherif is being linked with a move from Al Ahly to Egyptian Premier League rivals El Masry as the Port Said club explore options to strengthen their attack.

Sherif, 30, returned to Al Ahly in July 2025 after a spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Khaleej and is under contract with the Cairo giants until June 2030. Any deal is therefore expected to require a significant negotiation, with the striker currently valued at around €500,000.

El Masry are understood to be targeting a proven top-flight scorer, and Sherif’s record in Egyptian domestic football makes him one of the most accomplished forwards available within the league. He has scored 60 goals and provided 21 assists in 191 Premier League appearances, averaging a goal every 200 minutes.

Sherif has been a key figure in Al Ahly’s recent continental success, helping the club win the CAF Champions League twice, most recently in the 2022-23 campaign. His performances in that period also brought individual recognition, finishing as top scorer in both the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League in 2020-21.

Having first joined Al Ahly from Wadi Degla in 2018, Sherif has experienced several cycles at the club, including a loan at Enppi and his more recent return from Saudi Arabia. At 1.84m and capable on both feet, he has often been used as a central reference point in Al Ahly’s attack.

For now, Sherif remains contracted to Al Ahly until 2030, leaving the Cairo side in a strong position should formal talks with El Masry develop.
