Kings Kangwa: AEK Athens eye move for Zambia and Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder

Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa of Hapoel Beer Sheva is being linked with a move to AEK Athens, with the Greek Super League club exploring a deal for the 27-year-old central midfielder.

The proposed transfer, rated at around a 66% likelihood at this stage, would see AEK attempt to prise Kangwa away from Israel despite the player being under contract with Beer Sheva until 30 June 2028. Kangwa’s current market value is understood to be about €3.8 million, giving an indication of the level of fee Beer Sheva may seek if talks progress.

Kangwa has made an immediate impact at the start of the new campaign, scoring in his only appearance so far in the Aluf haAlufim, and featuring for the full 90 minutes. That follows a standout 2025-26 season in which he was named Footballer of the Year at Beer Sheva, credited with 12 goals as the club secured the Israeli league title.

The midfielder joined Hapoel Beer Sheva from Red Star Belgrade on 30 July 2024 for a reported €800,000 fee and has added to a substantial medal collection that includes back-to-back Serbian league and cup doubles with Red Star in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

AEK’s interest comes as Kangwa enters what is typically considered a peak period for a central midfielder, but Beer Sheva are in a strong position, with two years still to run on his deal and the player wearing the No 17 shirt for the Israeli champions.
