Pyramids FC confirm Rulani Mokwena’s technical team for new season
Egyptian giants Pyramids FC have officially confirmed the composition of head coach Rulani Mokwena’s technical team ahead of the 2026/27 season as the South African begins a new chapter with the reigning African champions.
Mokwena was unveiled as the club’s new head coach on Friday night, replacing Croatian manager Krunoslav Jurčić, who departed after overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
As part of his backroom staff, Mokwena has appointed fellow South Africans Wendell Robinson and Sinethemba Badela, two trusted assistants with whom he has previously worked at several clubs.
Robinson joins Pyramids as the club’s goalkeeper coach after working alongside Mokwena at Algerian champions MC Alger and Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad. Badela, meanwhile, reunites with the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician after serving on his coaching staff at Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca and Al Ittihad.
The appointments underline Mokwena’s preference for continuity, with both coaches having played key roles within his technical setup during his previous managerial spells.
Mokwena faces the daunting task of succeeding Jurčić, who leaves behind an impressive legacy at Pyramids. Under the Croatian coach, the Cairo-based club enjoyed a historic campaign, lifting the CAF Champions League for the first time before adding the CAF Super Cup and the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup to their trophy cabinet.
Domestically, Pyramids also mounted another strong title challenge, finishing second in the Egyptian Premier League and securing qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League.
With expectations high, Mokwena and his newly assembled technical team will be tasked with maintaining Pyramids’ status among Africa’s elite while challenging for further domestic and continental honours in the upcoming campaign.
