AIK first-team eye promotion for teenage midfielder Oreoluwa Agbenla from U19 ranks

Nigeria midfielder Oreoluwa Agbenla of AIK U19 is being linked with a step up to AIK’s Allsvenskan squad as the Stockholm club assess internal options ahead of future windows. The 18-year-old, who operates in midfield and is right-footed, is viewed within the club structure as a candidate for elevation from the youth side to the senior setup rather than an external transfer.

Agbenla joined AIK’s U19s on 17 July 2026 from Remo Stars’ reserve team in Nigeria, moving directly into the club’s academy system. His current deal with AIK runs until 31 December 2030, meaning any change to his status would be handled as an internal promotion rather than a contract issue or an impending free transfer.

The potential move would keep Agbenla within the same organisation but shift him from youth football into the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top tier, where AIK are looking to deepen competition for places from within their own ranks. The club have increasingly used the U19 side as a pathway into the senior dressing room, and Agbenla’s recent arrival from Nigeria places him among the latest intake being monitored for development.

Born on 12 July 2008 and listed at 1.71m, Agbenla has been recruited specifically as a midfield option for AIK’s youth system, and any progression to the first team would follow further assessment of his adaptation in Sweden. For now, he remains contracted to AIK U19 on a long-term agreement while discussions over a possible promotion to the Allsvenskan squad continue internally.
