Malam Malu: Guinea-Bissau defender joins KAS Eupen on free transfer
Guinea-Bissau centre-back Malam Malu has joined Belgian side KAS Eupen on a free transfer from Sporting CP’s Under-23s. The 21-year-old defender has signed a deal with the Challenger Pro League club running until 30 June 2027.
Malu, a left-footed central defender standing at 1.90m, moves to Belgium after spending the past few seasons in Portugal with Sporting’s youth set-up. He initially linked up with the Lisbon club’s Under-23 squad in March 2023 after a spell without a club.
The defender featured for Sporting at Under-23 level in domestic competition, including an appearance in the Liga U23 Cup qualifying phase, as he continued his development in Portuguese football. His switch to Eupen represents his first move into senior professional football outside Portugal.
By recruiting Malu on a free transfer, KAS Eupen have added height and a left-sided option to their defensive ranks ahead of the new Challenger Pro League campaign. The agreement ties the Guinea-Bissau youngster to the Belgian club for the 2026-27 season.
