Mohamed Akandji: French-Ivorian defender joins APM Metz after spell without club
French-Ivorian centre-back Mohamed Akandji has joined APM Metz, ending his recent spell without a club with a move to the National 2 side. The 24-year-old has signed for the Metz-based outfit, who compete in National 2 Group E, as they continue shaping their squad for the new campaign.
Akandji arrives at APM Metz having most recently been registered without a club, and the switch offers the defender a fresh platform to relaunch his career in French football. Comfortable at the heart of the back line, he strengthens a defensive unit that will be tested across a demanding fourth-tier season.
Born in 2001 and eligible to represent both Cote d’Ivoire and France, Akandji adds a blend of physicality and experience of senior football for his age. His move underlines APM Metz’s strategy of targeting players who can step straight into a competitive National 2 environment.
The transfer was completed on 17 July 2026, with Akandji now available for selection as APM Metz build towards the start of their league campaign in Group E.
