Salim Magoola: Uganda goalkeeper at Richards Bay linked with Durban City move
Uganda goalkeeper Salim Magoola of Richards Bay is being linked with a move to Betway Premiership rivals Durban City FC as the coastal club explore options to strengthen their goalkeeping department.
Magoola, 31, has been a mainstay at Richards Bay since arriving in July 2022 and is under contract until 30 June 2027, meaning any deal would require Durban City to negotiate a transfer fee rather than pursue a free move. His current market valuation is around €600,000, a figure likely to form a reference point in any talks between the clubs.
Born in Kampala on 27 May 1995, Magoola has built up substantial experience in African club football, with spells at KCCA FC and Express in Uganda before moving to Sudan, where he played for Al-Merrikh SC and Al-Hilal. He later joined South African side P. Callies, from whom Richards Bay signed him ahead of the 2022–23 campaign.
Since arriving in South Africa’s top flight, Magoola has established himself as a first-choice goalkeeper, contributing to Richards Bay’s efforts to consolidate their Premiership status. His performances there have helped maintain his standing in the market, having previously reached a highest valuation of €900,000 earlier in his career.
Richards Bay are not believed to be under immediate pressure to sell, given the length of Magoola’s current deal, and the club can expect to drive a hard bargain if Durban City decide to formalise their interest in the Ugandan international’s services.
