Joseph Ekuban: Ghana-Italy forward joins Cittadella on free transfer from Renate

Ghanaian-Italian striker Joseph Ekuban has joined Cittadella on a free transfer from Renate, strengthening the Serie C side’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign. The 26-year-old centre-forward, who was without a club following his departure from Renate earlier in July, has now sealed a move to Cittadella after agreeing terms this week.

Verona-born Ekuban, who stands at 1.85m and prefers to play through the middle, arrives with extensive experience in Italy’s third tier. He has made over 140 appearances in Serie C across its three groups, scoring 12 goals and providing a number of assists in league and cup competitions. His most recent spell at Renate followed a January switch from Latina Calcio last season.

Prior to his time with Renate and Latina, Ekuban featured for Turris and Arezzo, moving between the clubs predominantly on short-term deals and free transfers. His career has been built largely in Italy’s lower professional divisions, with earlier spells at V. Francavilla, Monterosi and Fidelis Andria giving him regular game time at senior level.

Ekuban also has experience outside Italy, having spent time with Albanian side FK Partizani, where he was part of the squad that won the Albanian Super Cup in the 2019-20 season. Earlier in his career he came through the youth ranks at Hellas Verona, progressing from the under-17s to the Primavera set-up before embarking on a series of loans to gain first-team experience.

Ekuban’s move to Cittadella is a permanent free transfer, completed on 17 July 2026.
