FOOTBALL / CLUB WORLD CUP: TECHNOLOGY ON THE LINE TESTED

The Club World Cup, scheduled from December 6-16, 2012, in Japan, will feature goal line technology (GLT) for the first time in its 9th official edition. The European champion, Chelsea, will face the winner of the quarter-final between the Asian champion and Mexican club Monterrey. The other quarter-final will see the African representative face the winner of the play-off between Auckland City (NZL) and the Japanese champion. The winner of this quarter-final will meet Corinthians, the champions of South America, in the semi-final. The full schedule is as follows:

Play-off (December 6 in Yokohama):

  • Japanese champion vs. Auckland City (NZL)

Quarter-finals (December 9 in Toyota):

  • Winner of the play-off vs. African champion
  • Asian champion vs. Monterrey (MEX)

Semi-finals:

  • Semi-final 1 (December 12 in Toyota): Winner quarter 1 vs. Corinthians (BRA)
  • Semi-final 2 (December 13 in Yokohama): Winner quarter 2 vs. Chelsea (ENG)

Matches for Placement:

  • Match for 5th place (December 12 in Toyota): Loser quarter 2 vs. Loser quarter 1
  • Match for 3rd place (December 16 in Yokohama): Loser semi-final 1 vs. Loser semi-final 2

Final (December 16 in Yokohama):

  • Winner semi-final 1 vs. Winner semi-final 2
