Benjamin Kabeya: Switzerland-DR Congo defender steps up to Young Boys first team from U21s

Switzerland-DR Congo right-back Benjamin Kabeya has joined Young Boys’ first team from BSC YB U21, signing a contract with the Swiss champions until 30 June 2027.

The 25-year-old Bern-born defender makes the jump into the Super League squad after establishing himself in the club’s second team, who compete in the Promotion League. His promotion is effective from 17 July 2026 and keeps him at the Wankdorf for at least one more season.

Kabeya, who stands at 1.80m and plays primarily at right-back, has amassed more than 100 appearances in the Promotion League, underlining his experience in Swiss senior football. He has also made his Super League debut for Young Boys, featuring once in the top flight, and previously appeared in the UEFA Youth League during his time in the academy.

A former Swiss U18 champion with Young Boys’ youth side in 2018-19, Kabeya’s career has followed a varied path. After progressing from the club’s U18s to the U21s, he spent a spell in the United States with North Carolina before returning to Switzerland to join FC Biel-Bienne on a free transfer. He moved back to BSC YB U21 in 2023, again on a free, rebuilding his career in the third tier.

Kabeya was part of the Young Boys squad crowned Swiss champions in the 2023-24 season and now becomes a full member of the first-team group as they prepare for the new campaign. His step up from BSC YB U21 to Young Boys is confirmed as a completed move.
