Matar Niang: Senegal midfielder joins AJEL Rufisque on free transfer from Teungueth FC

Senegalese midfielder Matar Niang has joined AJEL Rufisque on a free transfer from Teungueth FC, strengthening the Ligue 1 club’s options in defensive midfield. The 24-year-old, who stands at 1.90m and plays primarily as a holding midfielder, has completed a permanent move within the Senegalese top flight.

Niang leaves Teungueth after helping the club to the Senegalese league title in the 2025-26 season. His switch to AJEL Rufisque comes with his market value currently assessed at around €10,000, reflecting his status as an emerging figure in domestic competition.

Born in Malika and right-footed, Niang has already gained experience in Ligue 1 despite his age. He made two league appearances last season for Teungueth, featuring in the holding role and totalling 70 minutes of action as part of the squad that secured the national championship.

Before arriving at Teungueth in 2024, Niang built his career in Senegal with Guediawaye FC, having earlier stepped up from Malika AF. His move to AJEL Rufisque marks the latest stage in a progression that has kept him within the country’s leading clubs and the top division.

Niang’s transfer to AJEL Rufisque has been completed as a free transfer ahead of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign.
